One day, Eddie suggested getting a pet.

And brought this guy home.

Plot-twist: Steve hates birds. Or hated?

hey. what if she isn’t doomed by the narrative . what if she is doomed by herself

it’s so insane we have to just keep showing up for work. no matter what is happening globally, locally, personally, you’re supposed to show up and act like the formatting on a report is actually really important and demands your attention.

eddie who increasingly becomes a hermit as he gets older and constantly uses the “well this has been fun but i gotta get back to the wife now” excuse or “i’d love to stay and chat but the missus will have my head on a stick” or a classic “sorry, wife said no, wants to hang out just the two of us tonight.”

steve is the wife. steve has no idea eddie is saying these things

Additionally, inheritance laws especially in English law used to be very strict about what wives and daughters could receive. Most of the property when a person died would go to a male heir even if that person left a wife or older daughter. This could even include the very house a woman was living in when her husband died. Cue Jane Austen and other writers of this era who discuss problems of women’s legal dependence. At certain times women could not hold land, houses, or bank accounts but they could take more personal property like jewelry or dresses. Women had to be conscious of the value of their clothing and jewelry because it could someday mean the difference between penniless or able to afford a place to live after your husband or father died.

listening to fleetwood mac is like. i don’t know this song but let’s give it a shot. oh wait i do know this song. i’ve heard it a million times and always liked it, i just didn’t know the name. on some level i kind of assumed that song was just an ambient part of the world the way the sound of the wind or birdsong in the trees was but apparently it’s by fleetwood mac. neat.

fiction and fantasy are so fun because it’s like. if i met this man in real life i would drop kick him off a cliff within three seconds of him opening his mouth. luckily for him he doesn’t exist so we can all happily ignore those red flags and pretend we could fix him
